A freezer door gasket is the seal around the door of a freezer and ensures that the internal temperature remains constant. If a door gasket is torn or worn, warm, moist air penetrates inside. In a freezer, this quickly leads to ice formation. Replacement not only prevents ice formation but also unnecessary power consumption and extra wear on the refrigeration compressor.

Types of freezer door gaskets
With freezers, you usually encounter one of the following profile types, depending on the year of manufacture and brand of the freezer.
- Push-in profile: the most common type in newer freezers, with a push-in arrow that clicks into the door rebate.
- Flat profile: a flap that is screwed, riveted, or stapled under a plate or strip.
- Bead profile: similar to a flat profile, with a bead at the end of the flap so that the profile does not shift during installation.
- Hollow profile: a flap without a magnet chamber.
Replacing a freezer door gasket? Keep this in mind
Are you unsure whether a freezer door gasket needs replacing? Pay attention to these signs:
- Do you see ice buildup on or around the profile?
- Has the profile become stiff or does it show cracks?
- Does the door still close completely, without a visible gap?
These signs indicate that warm, moist air is entering the freezer. Besides ice formation, this leads to extra power consumption and accelerated wear of the refrigeration compressor.
The correct profile starts with the right choice
Follow our step-by-step plan for taking measurements and determining the required profile. When replacing, always check the old profile code, so that the new profile has the same fit and seal.

In a freezer, the temperature difference with the outside air is greater. Penetrating moist air therefore precipitates faster as ice, which can further damage the profile and the seal.
Yes. Ice can form in the profile, causing it to deform and tear further. A frozen profile can also break when opening and closing the door. Repeated ice formation and thawing can also accelerate the hardening of the material. In case of persistent ice formation, it is advisable to have the profile checked.
Not necessarily. For some profiles, we do have versions that are better suited for low temperatures: extra soft PVC (identifiable by -S in the profile name) and Extended Life TPE (identifiable by -E). Both remain flexible longer in cold conditions and therefore last longer. If one of these versions is available for your profile, we recommend it. If only the standard version is available, that is also an excellent choice. After all, the original door gasket was also used in this way.
