Flap profiles

A flat-mounted profile can be recognized by the flap at the base of the profile. This flap is clamped under a plate. The profile is screwed, riveted or stapled to the inside of the refrigerator door by this plate or strip. In other cases, the seal itself is screwed directly against the inside of the refrigerator door.

Most flat-mounted profiles have an integrated magnet as standard, recognizable by the addition -M in the profile code. There are some flat-mounted profiles without a magnet, which are indicated by -R.

Need help finding the right flat-mounted profile?

Not sure which profile you need? Search by brand and model of your refrigeration unit or compare the profile code with your existing door gasket. Once you have found the correct profile, you can use the configurator to specify both the color and the dimensions to calculate the price directly.

How does a flat-mounted profile work?

The flap at the base of the profile is clamped under a plate or strip, which is then screwed, riveted or stapled to the inside of the refrigerator door. In other cases, the seal itself is screwed directly against the inside of the door. Unlike push-in profiles, you always need tools for installing and replacing a flat-mounted profile, such as a screwdriver, rivet gun or staple gun.

If the door gasket to be replaced is fastened with rivets, these must first be drilled out. Our advice is to then fasten it with screws so that it is easier to replace. Use flat-head screws.

With or without magnet

  • -M: profile with standard integrated magnet. Ensures a good seal against the door frame and is the most common version.
  • -A or -R: profile without magnet. Used when the door or drawer does not use a magnetic closure or when another closing method is required.

When replacing, always check the old profile code or the exact dimensions, so that the new profile has the same fit and closure. If necessary, use the page dimensions of door gaskets.

Where is a flat-mounted profile used?

Flat-mounted profiles are used in refrigerators, freezers, cold rooms and drawers. These are usually older refrigeration units for which it is often no longer possible to obtain an original door gasket from the manufacturer. Most newer refrigerators are equipped with a push-in profile, which is easier to replace.

Find the right flat-mounted profile

DSU supplies flat-mounted profiles in various sizes and versions, with and without magnets. You can choose from three materials: Standard PVC (-M/-R), Soft PVC (-MS) and Extended Life TPE (-ME). In addition, counter-welded profiles are available, where the profile is mirror-welded, and profiles with an extra strong magnet. You can filter by material and version or search by brand and model of your equipment.

How to compare the right profile

The most important factors for choosing the correct flat-mounted profile or a suitable alternative are the working height and the width. The working height is the part that is not under the plate/mounting strip. If the working height deviates too much, the door will not close properly. A gap will remain or the door will not close.

On the drawings on the website and in the catalog, the left side is always the outside of the profile once it is incorporated into the door gasket.

Frequently asked questions about flat-mounted profiles

Look at the base of the door gasket. If there is a flap that is clamped under a plate or strip and screwed, riveted or stapled, then you have a flat-mounted profile. If, instead, there is an arrow with barbs that clamps into a groove, then it is a push-in profile.

The -M suffix means that the profile has an integrated magnet. The -A and -R suffixes indicate that the profile does not contain a magnet. In addition, -MS and -ME indicate the material: -MS stands for Soft PVC, -ME for Extended Life TPE. This is relevant because when replacing, you want to maintain the same version as the original profile, unless you consciously want a different version.

Then look for a suitable alternative profile with the same working height and width. View the explanation on Find alternative profile. Are you unsure? Feel free to contact us, and together we will find the right solution.

Push-in profiles are used by many different manufacturers of refrigeration equipment. The correct profile depends on the exact dimensions and mounting method of the door, not just the brand. Therefore, preferably search by brand and model, or measure the existing profile and compare it with our drawings.

For flat-mounted profiles, this can be done in two ways. You measure the outer dimensions of the door gasket or the distance between the outer edges of the magnetic strip. For many flat-mounted profiles, the magnetic strip is on the outside of the profile (if you look at the cross-section), and that measurement therefore corresponds to the outer dimensions. We have a handy instruction video for this

Yes, but unlike push-in profiles, you will need tools and skill for this: a drill or screwdriver, rivet gun or staple gun, depending on the mounting method. View our instruction video.

At DSU, we have over 900 brands; unfortunately, there are multiple type numbers, and new models are constantly being introduced to the market. When the type numbers are known, they are listed on the brand's page. If the type number is not known to us, that's not a problem. This is because we produce everything to measure. Determine the correct flat profile and size and use the configuration tool to place the order. Optionally, add the brand and type number to the reference so that we can further complete our information.
