Drag Seals

A drag seal is used for sealing cold room and freezer room doors, where the rubber drags over the floor or threshold during the opening and closing of the door. Due to its flexible design, the rubber conforms well to uneven surfaces and prevents cold air from escaping under the door. Cold air naturally sinks, while warm air rises. Where the cold air comes into contact with warmer outside air, moisture condenses, which can freeze into ice lumps at the bottom of the door in a freezer room. A well-fitting drag seal limits this, which also prevents temperature loss and unnecessary energy consumption.

Drag seals are available in different designs and shapes, including I-, L-, P-, and T-profiles. The correct design depends on the door construction, the mounting method, and the dimensions of the existing profile.

Need help finding the right profile?

Not sure which profile you need? Search by brand and model of your cooling unit or compare the profile code with your existing door gasket. Once you have found the correct profile, you can use the configurator to specify both the color and the dimensions to calculate the price immediately.

How does a drag seal work?

A drag seal is mounted on the underside of a cold room or freezer room door and provides a seal between the door and the floor or door opening. The difference with other door gaskets is that a drag seal is designed to make controlled contact with the surface. This ensures that the door seals properly, while the rubber can move along during opening and closing.

When replacing, always check the old profile code or the exact dimensions so that the new profile has the same fit and seal. If necessary, use the page dimensions of door gaskets for this.

Where is a drag profile used?

Drag profiles are mainly used in cold rooms and freezer rooms, because the door here does not have a rim or threshold against which a standard door gasket can seal. Without a drag seal, the cold air would sink down at the bottom of the door. There are two ways to apply this: a profile with a different shape on one of the four sides with a flap that serves as a drag seal, or a separate drag seal mounted on the door in combination with a regular door gasket on the other sides.

Find the right drag profile

DSU has developed a universal drag seal that fits under almost any cold room door. For this, you mount the mounting strip 22-C with one or two H3-65 inside. For a cold room, 1x H3-65 is recommended, for a freezer room, 2x H3-65. Common designs include:

  • I-profiles
  • L-profiles
  • P-profiles
  • T-profiles

The letter indicates the shape of the profile. Determine which shape is needed based on the existing mounting and door construction, or compare the existing profile with our drawings.

How to compare the right profile

The mounting strip is attached to the door and is usually made of aluminum. This generally does not need to be replaced and determines which type of drag seal you need. When comparing profiles, pay particular attention to the width and height of the profile so that it matches the existing mounting strip.

Frequently asked questions about drag profiles

You can identify a drag profile by the fact that the rubber is intended to make contact with the floor or threshold when the door closes. The profile is located at the bottom of a cold room or freezer room door and has a longer flexible lip that drags over the floor.

The letter indicates the shape of the profile. Determine which shape is needed based on the existing mounting and door construction or compare the existing profile with our drawings.

Then look for a suitable alternative profile with the same working height (the height between the floor and the bottom of the door that needs to be bridged). You can also look at our universal solution: mounting strip 22-C with 1x H3-65 for a cold room, or 2x H3-65 for a freezer room.

Drag seal profiles are used by many different manufacturers of cold and freezer room doors. The correct profile depends on the exact dimensions and mounting method, not just the brand. Therefore, preferably search by brand and model, or measure the existing profile and compare it with our drawings.

You measure the width of the drag seal and order the required number of meters or the fixed length, depending on the product.

At DSU, we have over 900 brands; unfortunately, there is a multitude of type numbers, and new models are constantly entering the market. When the type numbers are known, they are listed on the brand page. If we do not know the type number, that is not a problem. We produce everything to measure. Determine the correct profile and size and use the configurator tool to place the order. Optionally, include the brand and type number in the reference so that we can further complete our information.
