Blast Chiller Seal

Blast chillers and freezers are used in commercial kitchens and catering companies to quickly cool prepared foods back down to the optimal storage temperature. The door seal ensures that the cabinet is hermetically sealed during this rapid cooling process. For blast chillers and blast freezers, we recommend door gaskets of -ME- or -MS-quality. These materials remain flexible down to -40 and -20 degrees Celsius, respectively. This extends the lifespan of the profile during the extreme temperature fluctuations associated with this equipment.

Types of blast chiller seals

For blast chillers and blast freezers, the material makes all the difference due to the rapid and extreme temperature fluctuations during the cooling process.

  • ME (Extended Life TPE): remains flexible down to -40 degrees Celsius, making it the best choice for blast freezers and intensive use.
  • MS (Soft PVC): remains flexible down to -20 degrees Celsius and is suitable for blast chillers and blast freezers. View our range of push-in profiles in -MS-version.
  • Standard PVC: suitable for less intensive use, but less resistant to the rapid temperature fluctuations of a blast chiller.

Replacing a blast chiller seal? Keep this in mind

In a blast chiller, a compromised seal is noticed more quickly than in regular refrigeration equipment, because the cooling process must take place within a fixed time. When checking, pay attention to:

  • Does the profile still respond flexibly or does it feel stiff or brittle after constant temperature shocks?
  • Are there hairline cracks in the corners where the most stress is placed on the material?
  • Does the door remain fully closed during the cooling process?

Does the cooling take noticeably longer than normal? Then there's a good chance that the seal no longer closes hermetically. In addition to a longer cycle time, this also means a higher load on the compressor.

The right profile starts with the right choice

Preferably choose -MS or -ME quality due to their flexibility at low temperatures. Follow our step-by-step plan for taking measurements and determining the required profile. When replacing, always check the old profile code to ensure the new profile has the same fit and closure.

Search by brand

Do you know the brand and model of your blast chiller or blast freezer? View the overview of more than 900 brands and quickly find the matching seal. Is your brand or type number not listed, or is the original profile no longer available? Then see how to find an alternative profile.

Order in a few steps

  1. Determine the profile or search by brand and model
  2. Measure the correct size using the step-by-step plan
  3. Choose -ME or -MS quality for optimal resistance to low temperatures
  4. Configure material, color, and dimensions in the online configurator
  5. Place your order

Frequently asked questions about push-in profiles

Blast chillers and blast freezers undergo rapid and extreme temperature fluctuations. -ME material remains flexible down to -40 degrees Celsius and -MS down to -20 degrees Celsius. As a result, these profiles withstand those fluctuations better than standard PVC.

You can, but this material is less resistant to extreme temperature fluctuations. This can cause the profile to harden or crack more quickly, meaning more frequent replacement.

Due to constant temperature fluctuations, a seal in a blast chiller wears out faster than in regular refrigeration equipment. Furthermore, the extreme cold makes the material more susceptible to breakage. An exact replacement period is difficult to provide, as it heavily depends on the intensity of use. Therefore, check for signs of wear more frequently than with a regular refrigerator or freezer.

No, for both applications we recommend the same qualities: -ME, which remains flexible down to -40 degrees Celsius, or -MS, down to -20 degrees Celsius. This makes them suitable for both blast chilling to approximately 3 degrees and blast freezing to approximately -18 degrees.
