Fridge seal cleaning and maintenance

Picture

Cleaning fridge seals frequently and maintaining them in the correct way are important to reach the maximum lifetime.

Incorrect cleaning methods
In daily practice, fridge and freezer door rubbers and seals are not cleaned regularly. Grease and oil residues should be removed immediately to prevent a fridge seal from drying out and getting hard causing it to tear. A practical example is the enthusiastic employee who cleans the fridge seals with a cloth with a sharp object inside in order to get in-between de folds. Using sharp object such as knives, screwdrivers etc. while cleaning can cause the fridge seal to tear. This often occurs at the top-side because this is where the pollution normally is.
Another practical example is that seals are removed from the fridge doors or drawers and go into the dishwasher. Against this treatment, a fridge seal is not resistant. Fridge seals should never be put in a dishwasher in order to clean them. It will cause irreparable damage to the PVC rubber of which the seal is made.

How to clean a fridge seal
Remove the coarse contamination with a cloth or brush. Use a water-based cleaner or our professional cleaner specially developed for fridge seal maintenance. Make sure to use a clean cloth, so not the kitchen cloth that has been in contact with food, grease etc. Gently open to folds of the fridge seal with your hand to clean in-between.

Use of improper cleaning agents
The use of aggressive cleaning agents directly affects the life span of a (magnetic) seal and / or door rubber. Cleaning products such as all-purpose cleaners, oven cleaners and aggressive degreasers are not suitable for cleaning fridge seals.

Which cleaner should I use for maintaining fridge seals?
We recommend a professional cleaning agent specially designed for cleaning (magnetic) fridge seals and fridge gaskets. This cleaner can be applied directly on the seal.
