Frozen products such as ice cream, vegetables and pizzas are stored in chest freezers in supermarkets, petrol stations, amusement parks and elsewhere. These freezers are fitted with a glass lid that can slide: a sliding lid (also referred to as a sliding glass lid). Because of the sliding motion and frequent opening/closing, proper guiding, sealing and damping are essential to keep the freezer efficient and neatly free of ice.
Chest freezer with sliding glass lids
1) Sliding lid guide
A sliding lid must run smoothly and stably along the edge. For this purpose, a sliding lid guide is used. In our range, this is profile 702-A.
Please note: in virtually all AHT freezers with sliding lids, 702-A is used in combination with 701-A (guide + gap seal). This makes it easier to check specifically for wear and replace parts in time.
2) Seals for the gap between lids
Where the glass lids overlap, a gap forms between the panes. This gap is sealed with a sealing profile so that warm, humid air cannot enter the chest freezer. Humid air causes ice build-up on the lids, on the products and inside the freezer. The result: reduced product visibility for consumers and higher energy consumption due to additional ice build-up.
To seal this gap, profile 700-A or profile 701-A is typically used (depending on the type and dimensions). For AHT units, 701-A is often the standard in practice when combined with 702-A.
3) End side: sliding lid damper / damping
In addition to the gap seal, many sliding lids also have damping on the end side to ensure controlled closing and to limit play. For this application, various sliding lid dampers are available, such as 703-A, 704-A, 721-A and 722-A.
Glass doors for upright freezers and refrigerators
In addition to sliding lids, there are also glass doors on upright freezers and refrigerators. Here too, glass door dampers are sometimes used.
This damping can be located:
- at the top: profile 721-A or 722-A,
- or along the long side: 60-SIL, 66-SIL, 705-AE or 707-A.
