Bead profiles are very similar to flat profiles, but whereas flat profiles have a flat flap, bead profiles have a "bead" at the end of the flap. This bead ensures that the profile does not shift during and after installation. The profile is usually placed under the inner door and then screwed or riveted.
Bead profiles have a standard integrated magnet, recognizable by the addition of -M in the profile code.
Need help finding the right bead profile?
Not sure which profile you need? Search by brand and model of your refrigeration unit or compare the profile code with your existing door gasket. Once you have found the correct profile, you can use the configurator to specify both the color and the dimensions to calculate the price immediately.
How does a bead profile work?
The bead at the end of the flap ensures that the profile stays in place during and after installation. The profile is placed under the inner door and screwed or riveted. As with flat profiles, you need tools for this, in this case a screwdriver.
If the door gasket to be replaced is attached with rivets, these must first be drilled out. Our advice is to then secure it with screws so that it is easier to replace. Use flat-head screws. Replacing a bead profile is similar to how you do it for a flat profile.
With magnet
Bead profiles are equipped with a standard integrated magnet, recognizable by the addition of -M in the profile code. This ensures a good seal against the door frame.
When replacing, always check the old profile code or the exact dimensions, so that the new profile has the same fit and seal. If necessary, use the page dimensions of door gaskets for this.
Where is a bead profile used?
Bead profiles are used in refrigerators, freezers, cold rooms, and drawers. These are usually older refrigeration units for which it is often no longer possible to obtain an original door gasket from the manufacturer. Most newer refrigerators are equipped with a push-in profile which is easier to replace.
Find the right bead profile
DSU supplies bead profiles in a more limited number of sizes and designs than, for example, push-in profiles. You can search by brand and model of your equipment to find the correct profile. If the correct bead profile is not listed, you can check flat profiles for a comparable profile. The bead has little function. The flap to which the bead is attached is used to secure the door gasket. This can therefore also be done without a bead.
How to compare the right profile
Are you going for a new bead profile (or a suitable alternative)? Then pay particular attention to the working height and width. The working height is the part that is not under the plate/mounting strip. If the working height deviates too much, the door will not close properly. There will be a gap or the door will not close. In the drawings on the website and in the catalog, the left side is always the outside of the profile once it has been integrated into the door gasket.
Frequently asked questions about bead profiles
Look at the base of the door gasket. Is there a flap with a bead at the end, which is placed under the inner door and screwed on? Then you have a bead profile. If there is a flat flap without a bead, it is a flat profile. If there is an arrow with barbs that clamps into a groove, it is a push-in profile.
Yes, bead profiles are supplied with an integrated magnet as standard, recognizable by the addition of -M in the profile code. It is possible to choose one or more sides without a magnet in the configuration tool. Whether this is necessary depends on the original door gasket in the refrigeration unit. Four sides with a magnet is by far the most chosen variant.
Then look for a suitable alternative profile with the same working height and width. If the correct bead profile is not listed, you can check flat profiles for a comparable profile. The bead has little function. The flap to which the bead is attached is used to secure the door gasket. This can therefore also be done without a bead. Are you in doubt? Bead profiles are used by many different manufacturers of refrigeration equipment. The correct profile depends on the exact dimensions and mounting method of your door, not just the brand. Therefore, preferably search by brand and model, or measure the existing profile.
This can be done in two ways for bead profiles. You measure the outer dimensions of the door gasket or the distance between the outer edges of the magnetic strip. For many flat profiles, the magnetic strip is on the outside of the profile (when looking at the cross-section), and that dimension therefore corresponds to the outer dimensions. We have a handy instructional video for this.
Yes, all you need is a screwdriver to secure the profile under the inner door and some dexterity. Watch our instructional video on flat profiles, which use a similar attachment method.
At DSU, we have over 900 brands; unfortunately, there are a multitude of model numbers, and new models are constantly entering the market. When the model numbers are known, they are listed on the brand page. If the model number is not known to us, that's no problem. This is because we produce everything custom-made. Determine the correct bead profile and size and use the configuration tool to place your order. Optionally, include the brand and model number in the reference so that we can further complete our information.
